In lovely warm sunny weather, 61 PLEG members travelled from far and wide to enjoy the bacon sandwiches and coffee at Aln Valley Railway, Lionheart Enterprise Park and more importantly ride behind ex-BR Class 11, 12088. Three trips were required to clear the waiting crowds, such was the popularity of the event. After a safety briefing from the Duty Manager the rides got underway, whilst those waiting enjoyed the station area, went to see restoration projects in the shed or visited the excellent cafe. Whilst the first trip was underway enquiries were made about use of Wickham 10648 “Buzz” and its trailer 4985, and it was agreed it could be used later on for a small additional donation to project funds. In addition to securing the ride behind the target loco, the railway used three of the sidings in the depot area which appealed to the increasing number of Branch Line Society members that attend PLEG events as part of an excellent spirit of co-operation and co-ordination between the organisations. Once everyone had travelled behind 12088, and many had sampled the Wickham’s in operation, AB615 was provided for two further trips before becoming the service train for the day. Huge thanks to Selby for arranging the visit and to all the volunteers at Aln Valley Railway that made it happen.
