Isle of Wight Steam Railway

Friday 29th September until Sunday 1st October 2017

A diesel gala will take place at this railway.

33202 has been secured and will be only the fourth BR diesel to visit the island. It will only be there for the duration of the gala.

33202 will be restricted to the Smallbrook Junction to Havenstreet section as it is too long for the headshunt at Wooton. Latest news from the IOWSR however says that a way has been found for 33202 to work one train a day from Smallbrook to Wootton throughout. It will not work the return, that will be D2059 . 33202 will follow and work the train onward to Smallbrook. This will mean a gap in the timetable, but I hope we have pleased some of our visitors. This will happen on each of the 3 days.

The Wootton section will be worked by D2059 and the 4 wheeled coaches.

D2554 is expected to be on brake van passenger duty and will run right round past the new building to the headshunt buffer stops..

The owner of 33202 and the railway are now permitting cab rides on it on October 2nd and 3rd. This will comprise of one round trip over the line in the cab (not driving as we not ready for that yet!) There will be two booked people in the cab for each run. The price is £80. Booking will be essential. First come gets the best time slot. We hope to start the experiences at 08.45 and then every 45 minutes or so. If anybody is interested in this then please contact the railway to book a place. Contact the railway

The Train Story Discovery Centre will be open as will the catering and shop outlets.

If 03197 is still on site we would like to move it into Train Story Discovery Centre with the ballast hoppers so our visitors can see it, it is not currently in a public area.

There will be a display of recently re-discovered photographs of the diesels on the Island during BR and NSE days.

There will be a real ale bar and food will be available.

Entry and Diesel Train Tickets: Online price: Adult £11.50, Child £6.00, Infant FREE, Family (2 + 2) £29.00. Gate price: Adult £13.00, Child £6.50, Infant FREE, Family (2 + 2) £32.50.
